History
The Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, ESPOL, was established by executive decree, on October 29, 1958 by Camilo Ponce E., then President of Ecuador. The Mechanical Engineering career (program) was created in 1959 and the ME Department in 1961. In the eighties, ESPOL made a structural change and decided to transform the Departments into Faculties; as a result, the Mechanical Engineering Department became the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Later the Faculty expanded and created three other engineering programs and adopted a Technology Program (now phased out) and changed its name to Faculty of Mechanical and Production Sciences Engineering -FIMCP-.
